This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Repeated exposure to stories significantly builds students' literacy skills.

My students are in a kindergarten classroom at an extended day school in the inner city.

They LOVE listening to read alouds and frequently choose to go to the listening center during indoor recess! I would like to improve the story choices in the listening center for their literacy enjoyment.

My Project

I am requesting 9 individual books with CD and 1 set of Listen, Read & Rhyme with Dr. Seuss. It is extremely beneficial for students to listen to repeated readings of the same story. All of the books and audio CDs in this project correspond with stories we have already read as a class. Students will be choosing to listen to these stories during their free time; this demonstrates a love of stories and a love of reading!

This addition to my listening center will be ADORED by my students, which is a valuable piece of literacy development.

They have loved listening to the books that I have read (especially Dr. Seuss!), and would love to hear them over and over again! The audio CDs can provide them with that opportunity. A love of reading goes a long way in early childhood and develops a love of reading for the rest of their lives!
