Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am the Parent & Family Liaison for Hurshel Antwine Middle School and in a joint effort with our Community in Schools Coordinator, we are trying to incentivize many of our students that may need that extra "push" and support to do better in school and avoid such things as poor grades, low attendance, and even loss of credit. We hold meetings and interventions that focus on their individual needs or address issues that perhaps are hindering them from excelling. By providing certain incentives (even if just snacks), we are able to make each scholar feel seen and/or cared for where perhaps they feel they're lacking that in their home environment. "It's the little things" that really seem to go a long way with our kids and we're just on a mission to show them that we are here for them at any time thet may need us!
