This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school has a diverse population of students, some are refugee students learning English for the first time, some students who come from low income households, and some who have experienced homelessness. We have come together as a school to discuss, implement, and include strategies to best support our students. We have a goal to begin various clubs at our school in order to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. That is the purpose of this project. We are seeking donations to purchase various supplies for our clubs. For Mathletes Club, we are seeking flashcards and math games that target specific math standards (operations, number sense, time, money, place value) to inspire future math lovers. For film club, we are seeking video cameras, backdrops and lighting supplies, USB adapters, memory cards, directors' clapboards, and tripods. For Booklets club, we are seeking various novels that are age appropriate and include representations of all cultures and backgrounds in them. For Story Fest Club, we are seeking resource books with strategies to engage students in storytelling, retell, and writing. For science and history fair, we are seeking poster boards, markers, scissors, and glue for students to create their projects. We are also seeking additional scaffolded resources, such as sight words books, timers, and clipboards for our afterschool enrichment club to support our students. We are also seeking additional supports with student and teacher rewards, such as chips, snacks, soda, soda syrup, and organization for these items. We value all of the resources listed, and we have a plan in each club to strategically use these items to enhance the academic club experiences. We know these clubs will also increase engagement, participation, and interest in our school, and support our students with their social, emotional, and academic needs!
