This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I coach 600 kids daily for physical education. In our school, we serve Pre-K through fifth-grade students in a low socioeconomic area. Our school is a Title I school, and our entire school population is eligible to participate in the free lunch and breakfast program.
My students are full of life and a lot of energy.
They love to be outside and are eager to learn new sports. Currently, we are learning to play a variety of sports and my students are learning that there is a sport for everyone to promote an active healthy lifestyle. My students have a strong desire to learn to play all these different sports, but they lack the equipment and knowledge to do so.
My Project
I am requesting a cornhole set for our elementary school gym. Why cornhole you ask? Cornhole is a great game for everybody. It is portable, entertaining, and appropriate for all of our students and various ability levels. I predict that this new game will get even my most reluctant students to want to participate.
Many of our elementary students can feel overwhelmed in PE class by the level of competition and physical ability needed for many of the games we traditionally play.
Cornhole is slower paced than other games and therefor less intimidating – no one will feel left out or embarrassed thus building our student's self esteem.
