Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Keeping kids organized is HARD WORK! Since we don't have workbooks I copy all of the sheets my students need and they often lose them and then they can not study and practice their math work at home. These books will allow my students to have the material they need available and organized.

All of my students are urban areas, most of them come from low-income families and families whose first language is not English.

They love math and enjoy doing math activities and adding onto the math skills they learned the previous years. However, it is hard to do that this year, because of budget cuts we did not get any workbooks for our students to use in math class. Instead every week I use about 3 reams of paper that I have purchased to copy the information for my students so they do not waste instructional time copying notes from the board and have no time left to practice and engage in activities applying the lessons.

My Project

JUMP! into math curriculum is directly linked to the common core standards. Which is a great way to make sure all students are learning the same material at the same time. However, when we do not have books to teach this material it becomes difficult. These books will help my fifth grade class become more organized learners. They will not have to worry about where the notes from last week are about multiplying decimals they will be able to look into their book and use it has a reference. My students will be able to do all their math activities quickly and then move onto fun learning projects after the content is mastered!!
