Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine what your life would be like if you have a cognitive disability. For my students, this is their reality. They are young adults with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities, ranging from autism to intellectual disability. Their disabilities have an impact on their ability to learn and to acquire the skills needed for competitive employment.
According to the Department of Labor, people with disabilities are more likely to be unemployed as compared to their non-disabled peers.
One reason for this discrepancy might be that many people with disabilities lack the skills to gain employment.
Knowing this information, the programs at my school are designed to support the development of employment/vocational skills in conjunction with teaching the students the necessary independent and social skills so that they are able to obtain employment. My program focuses on providing students with hands-on, real-world skills to help them gain competitive employment.
My Project
I teach my students technology skills to prepare them for today's competitive job market. Every day, we do a lot of computer and online tasks. Having a mouse would help them access all functions of the computer with just one hand without having to use shortcuts, which many of my students struggle with.
Having a laptop mouse saves time.
It allows the students to have better control of their computer, move their cursor quickly, and performance different computer commands more efficiently.
It is hard for students to control their computer's cursor using a touchpad because touchpads require the use of both hands and are very sensitive. Having a laptop mouse will eliminate this problem, and students will be able to perform computer commands and tasks with ease.
