This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a music teacher and a band director that has been tasked to regrow the music program with a history of excellence and pride within our community. Our alumni have become successful within music and I want the same opportunities for my students today.

My students come from diverse backgrounds.

They represent a high minority and low socioeconomic population. My students require a multitude of learning materials in order to successfully meet our diverse population's needs. Our school has been under transformation for the past 6 years and has show incredible gains. Now that the school's operational constructs have been established and students are beginning to progress well though their curriculum, the school has decided to begin trying to re-establish some of the main cultural parts of our school, which include the band. At one time, the music program was a leading symbol of the school and the community.

My Project

Because I serve a diverse set of students (English Language Learners, Special Needs Students), I have to develop many types of manipulatives and graphic organizers to differentiate and reach all my students. This has caused the music department's printer to wear out long before its time. If we can obtain a high volume copy/printer, I will be able to supply my students with manuscript paper, worksheets, and graphic organizers that best fit the needs of each individual student's learning style and IEP. Having these materials will help my students to learn and perform music with more depth and rigor.

My students deserve the materials that best help them learn music and express themselves.

This copy/printer will allow me to worry less about scraping together learning materials for my students and focus on what is important - my students and their love of music!
