My Students
I absolutely love being a math teacher and modeling problems for my students. The school I work at is a Title 1 school which means many of the students come from poverty. My goal is to create a safe and fun learning environment for my students.
In math, students need to be able to move from concrete, to representational to abstract representations of the topic.
We can't start at abstract, so the beginning of each unit is filled with manipulative work, demonstrations and pictures so that conceptual understanding can be strong.
My Project
One of the methods of helping students learn anything is providing guided notes. This requires the teacher to create student materials that will be used throughout the lesson, copying them for each student and using them during the lessons.
My school does not provide teachers with paper, so I am unable to implement this strategy without a large amount of copy paper.
I teach 90 students and each lesson packet can be 2-3 pages, making my need approximately 200 pages per lesson or 1000 pages per week. I would love to be able to provide differentiation for my students, but cannot do this without a large amount of copy paper.
