My Students
My students are young, African- American and Hispanic adolescents who live in the community of Southeast Queens. These boys are motivated to learn and have shown great potential and a genuine love of science. They have been given the opportunity to take all four Regents Exams in the 8th Grade; Living Environment, Algebra, English, and US History. They are working diligently to achieve passing grades in each Regents offered so that they may enter HS with four Regents on their transcripts. This is an amazing opportunity for the young men to prepare themselves for College and the world beyond.
My Project
Currently, my 8th graders are preparing for the Living Environment Regents which is traditionally a high school course. They have requested the need for study guides and guided notes to aid in their learning. Currently, we have access to paper but not to create these resources for them.
It takes a great deal of time for them to write down all the necessary notes in class.
Often times they are not allowed to write on test and labs because we don't have enough paper to make individual copies per student, so they share test papers, labs etc. I would like to make it possible for them to be able to take their learning home and be able to write on their own papers to assist in the learning process.
