My Students

I am a school counselor for two elementary schools. I currently work with K-6th grade students. The students I work with have struggled to get back into the classroom due to significant changes in our schools with Covid-19. Students who come to my office struggle with high anxiety, self-regulation, social skills, and emotional regulation. Some of the students have a hard time just being in the classroom due to the overwhelming stress of everything going on with the pandemic.

I have students who are having a hard time with things going on at home with grief, divorced parents, blended families, parents who are constantly fighting, and they are in the middle.

My Project

I am a school counselor working with students in K-6th grade. Returning to school has been rough on my students, worrying whether they will get sick due to Covid-19. I am dealing with their mental health, from anxiety to positive interactions. My goal is to continue to provide counseling to all my students by teaching them good coping mechanisms with social stories. These books will new used for group lessons and to teach students in the classroom. I want my students to have good social skills by teaching them how to be resilient, have empathy and working through their emotions.

The students I work with struggle with high anxiety and anger.

These books and fidgets will help calm their anxiety. Students work on coping by journaling, coloring or doing art projects reflecting on how to help them be successful by using different tools.
