Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, to write, to build and to read. They come into my class with little to no socialization, so we spend the beginning of our year learning procedures and how to be good students.
My students come from an impoverished background, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in this first pivotal year of school.
My Project
My students enjoy focusing on new tasks. They love learning to read and every small game gives them practice listening and learning. These activities foster independence and creativity while focusing their attention on pre reading skills. The students will interact with these literacy materials and find success at every level. Most of my students are English language learners so exposing them to a wide variety of materials helps them to form context for background knowledge. These activities like the puzzles and sight word games will help to foster their communication and problem solving skills. The hot dots and wikki sticks will foster their love of reading and allow independent leveled learning opportunities.
