My students are the youngest learners in our inner city elementary school of ~ 300 students. I celebrate what my 5 and 6 years old students can do, and their potential for greatness. These students take great pride in all they do, from lining up to writing their names for the first time. They practice 21st century skills everyday through creativity and imagination in dramatic play or collaboration and critical thinking in discovery or blocks.
Kindergarten is the first step on the pathway to college and career!
My Project
My students are learning not only core content, such as math, science, and literacy but also 21st century skills like problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. The tagboard and markers will be used for cooperative projects including math problem solving and word problem creation. The ten frames will be used for students to share how they have solved problems - showing their critical thinking skills! The sentence strips and markers will be used for math vocabulary and equation creations. The Manikins will be used during geometry group work.
"The principle goal of education is to create men and women who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done—men who are creative, inventive, and discoverers." - Jean Piaget
