My students need books, like 3 copies of "Bullying in Schools," to learn how to keep bullies out of our Bully Free Learning Zone, Jumbo Magnetic Numbers, and several new instant learning centers to practice cooperative learning!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our classroom is a Bully Free Learning Zone!!! From day one my students have had many lessons on character and discussions about how to recognize bullies and how not to become a bully. We need to put those ideas to work! We need cooperative learning experiences!
I teach 20 eager students in a self contained full day kindergarten program in a high-need community.
For the majority of my class, English is a second language. In order to enhance lessons in character and create well rounded learning experiences, I incorporate Cooperative Learning Center Time into our daily routine.
My Project
Research shows that young students learn by "doing". We can talk all we want, read all the stories in the world about how to be a good citizen and how to recognize good behavior, but if we do not put it to practice, our students may not be getting it!
It is when the teacher is not present that the Bully's come out! New Cooperative Learning Centers will give my students the opportunities to practice how to keep our classroom Bully Free! I have been encouraging the magic words in our classroom "Please" and "Thank You" since the first day of school. Learning Centers will give them the opportunity to use them!
Opportunities to learn in a non-stressful environment, will encourage language development, self-esteem, and confidence. It will also encourage communication skills which is really good for my English Language Learners. Once they gain more confidence, they will be less likely to become a victim of bullying.
I am always looking for new ways to enhance learning for my students.
These new learning centers will bring life to my lessons and give the children a fun way to continue learning! By supporting my project you will help my students practice the good behaviors that we have been discussing since the first day of school. These learning opportunities will help cut out Bullying in our school for years to come.
