Help me give my students the gift of science books that will encourage and improve science literacy - a skill that will make them successful in this 21st-century learning environment.
What's better than hands-on science? Reading about science!
Reading and writing science is the basis of any great science invention, theory, or investigation.
I often explain to my students that reading is just as much a part of science as a beaker and test tube. Throughout the year, my students read about the contributions of Henrietta Lacks, Rosalind Franklin, and Charles Darwin. Still, I want to expand their horizons with other stories and information-based texts. With the listed materials, students at all levels will be able to access science in art-based forms (doodles), visually (elements in their natural state), through traditional teaching (study guides), and through the life stories of phenomenal people like Katherine Johnson. We'll also use the utility carts to organize our mobile class library and share it with other science classes.
I have seen how my students connect deeply with the content when they can not only complete an investigation but express the science behind it and make meaningful connections to other disciplines and real-world events.
