Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The start of the school year is an exciting time. I reconnect with students and set classroom routines. When I notice students participating in class, students earn participation points and they can trade participation points for classroom rewards. My Classroom Rewards Zone has really cool stuff. The items in this project include lip balms, hand sanitizers and snacks. These items will re-stock the Rewards Zone.

Getting to pick a lip balm, hand sanitizer or snack from the Rewards Zone is a special treat!

Our school uses Positive Behavior Intervention Supports to encourage students to have expected classroom behaviors. Having a selection of cool items in our Rewards Zone motivates students to participate in class. Getting rewarded with reward prizes that they choose helps them improve their class participation.

The snacks in this project include individually packaged popcorn, chips, and oatmeal bars. Everyone seems to love Smart Popcorn, Pringles, and Ms. Vickies chips. Beef Jerky and Bobo oatmeal bars are delicious. The drinks are bottles of 12 oz Zero Calorie Gatorade.

This project also includes items that will help my students regulate their bodies and be calm. The fluorescent light covers in this project will be placed on the ceiling lights. They filter the fluorescent light and create a calm ambiance in the room. The light covers showcase clouds and blue sky motif that creates a calming effect when you see the clouds. We want to have a mini fridge in class so we can have ice cubes in the fridge. When a student is stressed or anxious he/she can take a calming break and hold ice cubes in his/her hands. Holding something cold shifts the student's focus to the sensation he/she feels in his/her hands and helps him/her relax. Cooling therapy breaks are great!
