Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I absolutely love my students. They are curious, creative, and compassionate learners who love to read. Whether it’s diving into graphic novels, creating their own comics and plays, or gathering to perform original skits, they consistently find joy in storytelling. They frequently request flexible seating and understand how to advocate for their learning styles and environment. Our cozy reading nook—though small—has been well-used and well-loved.

With deep gratitude, I want to reward their passion for learning by expanding our space.

A larger classroom carpet and a bean bag chair would transform our reading area into a warm, welcoming corner that feels like home—where imaginations can stretch and their love for reading can continue to grow.

Students who read for pleasure perform better in school, report higher self-esteem, and develop stronger empathy. Flexible seating improves focus, engagement, and academic performance by supporting comfort, movement, and choice.

In addition, a rolling cart will serve as a mobile teacher desk and laptop station, allowing me to shift my position throughout the room and better connect with students during lessons. This flexibility helps sustain engagement and keeps learning dynamic.

We will also use the mailbox nook to store each student’s personal collection of creative nonfiction and fiction writing. These pieces will be celebrated on our classroom bulletin board, contribute to a student-created publishing book, and serve as the foundation for our end-of-year play—allowing students to take pride in their voice and growth.

These tools would not just enhance our space—they would support a culture of independence, comfort, and lifelong learning that my students deserve.
