My Students
My school is a melting pot of cultures. We have students from Korea, China, Africa, Mexico, Russia, the Philippines, and Japan; just to name a few. This causes many challenges for me as their teacher. Students everywhere need lots of hands-on activities to get them engaged, excited, and help them learn, even if they don't know the language. My class is no exception. My students are 7 and 8 years old and enjoy learning by doing.
Each year, it is more challenging to get students eager to learn about reading, math, and science.
Many students come to school with a poor or negative experience in these subjects. It's time to change that and get them involved in meaningful activities that help them change and leave my class with a "positive attitude".
Students want to learn and by giving them the tools to use in the classroom they will be more confident and achieve greater things. These tools will help bridge the gap between learning and language. Thus, inspiring them to work hard and learn by doing. They are our future and we need to invest in them now, while they are accepting and eager to explore. The "future" is now.
My Project
My classroom is very old and in need of air conditioning. With the high temperatures, the students are getting headaches, stomach aches, and are not able to learn. This makes me sad to see them so tired and hot. They are melting right before my eyes. They want to learn and the extreme temperatures are blocking them from getting a proper education.
The temperatures in the classroom have been 88 to 93 degrees for the past week and the students are not able to learn and focus.
It is so important to have a learning environment that fosters higher level thinking and a desire to succeed. When the building is so hot it is a challenge to stay motivated and engaged. The students show up everyday ready to learn and by 9:30 am our room is 88 degrees or higher. The students can't concentrate and they begin to get phsically sick. An air conditioner will keep the room cooler which will help the students meet the standards and be the great students I know they are.
