This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our goals are always to meet every child at their individual level. We come to school every day ready for a challenging adventure together! A lesson plan is always in place but we are always ready to shift the plan to meet any child's emergent needs. Special Education is about daily flexibility and adaptation. We focus on the many ABILITIES of each and every student even when the lists of DISABILITIES are seemingly overwhelming.
One simple bean bag seat, so many learning and multisensory opportunities - Cool Beans!
Many of my students benefit from movement breaks during their school day. A bean bag seat offers a safe flexible seating option for a young child. Movement breaks and flexible seating options help my young students begin to develop their self-regulating life skills, increasing their ability to focus which will ultimately aid in their overall learning. A bean bag seat is a fun way to help them have their sensory needs met as well as helping them increase their ability to sit and focus. The texture of the bean bag, the sound of the “beans” moving around and the safe feeling that the gentle pressure a bean bag seat provides will meet my students' needs on many different sensory levels. In addition, we can continue the conversation about colors (you sit in the blue seat and he sits in the red seat), turn taking (first he gets green and then you can have a turn in the green seat), as well as following simple one step directions (please sit in the blue seat).
