My students need a visual cookbook, the Look and Cook curriculum for individuals with special needs, a blender/food processor and a mini-kitchen.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Ahern's classroom raised $555

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our class is a small, intensive classroom for high school students with multiple or significant disabilities. We currently have five students, with a variety of physical, medical, developmental and communication challenges. These students might have autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome or a rare chromosomal disorder. They are bussed from two states to receive highly specialized educational and therapeutic services to meet their special needs.
Our current classroom does not have a sink or access to any kind of kitchen, yet cooking activities are some of our favorite things to do. Cooking can teach how to follow directions, math and reading skills, safety skills, socialization and is an important life skill. However we are limited to small, no cook projects that aren't very messy because we do not have the equipment we would need for larger activities.
If our classroom had a mini kitchen (with a small stove and microwave), a food processor and recipe and cooking curriculum designed for students with disabilities we could use cooking more in our week. Through cooking we could learn about science (heat and cold, liquids and solids, states of matter), social studies (recipes from different cultures), math (measuring and time), reading (by following recipes), patience, safety, and so much more!
Your donation would put a mini-kitchen, a food processor and curriculum designed for special needs students to learn through cooking into our classroom. With these items you will make it possible for students with significant special needs to learn a plethora of skills.
