My Project
I have a wonderful preschool class of children with special needs who have limited language skills who could benefit from a solid kitchen set as they have developed an interest in pretending to make food.
I plan to incorporate specific vocabulary of all the food items and different ways to cook the food (baking, boiling, mixing, etc.) by showing them simple pictures of items to pretend to cook and have the students create their own menu.
Some of my students do not know how to pretend to cook and when we are in the kitchen center we will focus on steps to follow, object imitation, and learning names of foods and items. My students are very special to me as I love to watch my 3 and 4 year old students learn new skills and progress in their overall development especially their ability to work together on their social and pretend play skills.
We will pretend to have a restaurant so the children can act like a waiter/waitress in which they can use writing skills to take an order, give the order to the cook and can have another student bring the food to the customer. Everyone in the kitchen center will play an important part of our special little restaurant.
We will also incorporate math/money with a cash register so that person can be the person that looks at the bill and with help from a teacher can give the correct money back or swipe a credit card. I feel that my students would benefit from a solid kitchen center and I'm excited for our team to teach important pretend play skills in the new and improved kitchen center.
