This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are passionate, hands-on learners who light up when they get the chance to create something themselves, especially in the kitchen. They come from a variety of backgrounds, and many of them haven’t had the opportunity to cook at home. Cooking gives them a sense of independence, accomplishment, and joy. What makes my students special is their willingness to try new things, support one another, and take pride in building real-world skills that will serve them for life.

This project will put engaging, easy-to-follow cookbooks directly into their hands, helping them learn through doing.

Each book is designed with young chefs in mind—some use comic-style visuals, others break down recipes into manageable steps, and all focus on fun, nutritious, and realistic meals. These resources will make a huge difference by giving students the confidence to read and follow directions, measure accurately, manage time, and problem-solve in the kitchen. With four copies of each title, we can work in small groups where everyone has access to their own book, promoting teamwork and active participation.

My goal is to create a classroom environment where students not only learn to cook but also build life skills like responsibility, communication, and perseverance. With your help, we can turn pages into plates and learning into lifelong confidence—one recipe at a time.
