Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fifth grade students consist of a diverse group of learners, with different learning styles and needs. Though they love Math and Science, they have voiced their desire to learn basic things like cooking, something they can do both at school and home given the right tools. Teaching them about basic cooking skills can empower them to become more independent and confident in their own abilities. This will certainly get them ready for Middle School!
Cooking simple recipes in the classroom can turn into a learning experience that will help my students become more self-confident and at the same time, help develop their Math and Science skills!
We are a Title 1 school and at least 84% of our students are on free and reduced lunch.
My Project
My students love Math and Science, but they still need help understanding how these subjects can be a part of their everyday lives through the practical application of cooking! The mini-refrigerator and toaster oven will serve as the "classroom kitchen appliances" they will use to bake and store food items as they learn how to cook simple recipes. The cookbooks will serve as a guide in creating simple meals they can make at school and at home preparing them in becoming more independent as they enter middle school.
Cooking in the Classroom will prepare my students in becoming "Chefs at Home!" It will also build their Math and Science skills, and even help them with Reading.
It's a win-win situation when they can apply what they're learning in the classroom and be able to use it at home. By donating to this project, you will be providing my students with the tools and ability to learn a basic living skill that they will need for their future.
