This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our special population of students at our middle school spend a half hour a day working with students from the general education program. On Wednesdays they have Cooking with a Buddy Class. Here our Autistic and Cognitively Impaired Students get together with our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and participate in cooking activities. The aprons, cake, and brownie mixes will be used when our students are paired up and create a treat that they can share together. On Thursday, the same format is followed when students from the general education population come into the Special Classes and play games with the students. When the weather gets nice we hope we can take them outside to continue the Game Day with Buddies. The students will use this time for our requested items like dart boards, magnetic toys, and toss games.

Our WIN Period programs have been excellent for our students.

They are learning how to socialize with peers who are not part of our classroom. They are modeling skills from the older students and demonstrating those skills throughout the school day.
