My students need a toaster oven and electric skillet to have hands on cooking experiences in class. We also need a blender, griddle, baking set, pot holders, and cookie sheets.

My Students
My Pre-K students come from very diverse backgrounds. They are considered high-risk learners due to their socio-economic lifestyles. Many of my students live in single-parent households or are being raised by their grandparents. These types of home challenges qualify them for my program.
My school is a located in inner-city Detroit on a block that is surrounded by abandoned homes and vacant lots.
Despite the location, my school has been recognized as a high performing school by the State of Michigan. My colleagues and I continue to put our students first no matter the challenges facing our school district.
My Project
Learning to cook is great at any age, however in preschool it can be most exciting. The house area is one of the most popular interest areas in our class. The students are always cooking up bear cakes, pizzas, and soups. They are also prepare the most delicious color tile drinks.
But wouldn't be awesome to actually have the preschoolers prepare and cook their own edible treat in class with a toaster oven and electric skillet?
Having A toaster oven and electric skillet in our class will allow the students to bring their imaginations to life. The students would be able to watch food that they helped prepare during small group cook inside our class. That's an experience that is priceless.
