My Students

My students are an awesome and active group of 21-second grade learners. We are part of a Title I public school where 2/3 of our students are on free/reduced lunch. Many students in our school come from single-parent homes, take part in before/aftercare programs, or are displaced/homeless.

Fair isn't everyone getting the SAME, Fair is everyone getting what they need to succeed.

We are a close-knit class and spend time building each other up instead of breaking each other down. We understand that each one of us learns differently, and require different things to do our best!

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to pick the best spot and best way to learn. This allows students to be more engaged and have less distractions around them. I believe that children shouldn't be stuck at a desk for 6-7 hours a day!

When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.

My most recent project allowed me to expand my current flexible seating options to more students, but still does not allow for the entire class to have choice in where/how they learn. I have already seen the benefits in my students when they are allowed to choose where they work for the day. Students have been more productive, focused, and have been able to work more cooperatively since the implementation of flexible seating. More options will give all students a chance to sit in a place where they feel most comfortable.
