My Project
We still need your help to give our students tools to regulate their “big” emotions!
Thanks to your help we have completed the first step of our project: obtaining sensory tools for our sensory bins and sensory walkway!
Now, all we need is the bins to put the tools in! This will allow the tools to be organized in the classroom based on the zones of regulation for easy access for students and teachers.
As a reminder of our overall project details:
Our goal is to provide students with sensory tools to help them self-identify and regulate their “big” emotions. This will provide our students with the support needed to participate and learn in school.
LES is seeking tools to aid students in their journey to identify and regulate their “big” emotions. Currently, emotional and sensory dysregulation are leading to disruptive behaviors, ultimately impacting the students’ ability to learn and the overall classroom environment.
We plan to use evidence-based occupational therapy approaches to create functional tools that will support students' ability to self-regulate. This will include sensory bins for each classroom, one sensory walkway on each floor, and an emotional regulation mural in a frequently visited area. These materials will provide accessible support to students during times of dysregulation, as well as guide emotional and sensory awareness. As a result, this will address the overall need for improving school participation and promoting student learning.
