Continuing Our Love of Reading Widely

Help me give my students a great reading experience. This selection includes highly requested books from sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. Most of the books were selected to honor Asian Pacific American voices in literature.

My Students

Every year, I have the opportunity to work with children on reading, writing, and everything in between. In my experience, the most successful middle school students have had access to highly-engaging books that are developmentally appropriate to their individual needs and skills.

Enthusiasm for reading and writing is foundational to the success of our middle school students.

Our students have entered with this enthusiasm. They are hungry for challenges, and they are eager to meet the marks set before them. It is with this enthusiasm, this appreciation for reading and writing, that our classroom will thrive. All they need are more and more fiction and non-fiction to explore.

My Project

For this project, students have worked with me to select books to bolster their reading experience. Graphic novels, short story collections, and sequels make up a short section of this material.

This year, a few students have worked directly with me to find titles that honor Asian Pacific American Heritage month.

Our goal is to build a library of materials that can be used by students this year and future years. These materials include a variety of subjects and maturity levels, as students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade will use them to peer into the narrative of the Asian Pacific American experience.

We hope these books will continue to build our understanding of our complex world.
