This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students get really engaged in learning math when they are given the opportunity to be creative through hands-on learning.
I teach 9th- through 12th-grade students who are enrolled in Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Advanced Placement Calculus, and in my extracurricular club MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement).
The communities where my students come from are low-income communities whose average household income is well below the state median income. Despite this adversity, my students are resilient and eager to learn. For many of them, access to technology resources and opportunities to print completed work in color is available only in the classroom.
My Project
My students are learning Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Advanced Placement Calculus. Mathematics is a foreign language for many students and it is primarily learned in school and not spoken at home.
Developing the mathematical language requires that students develop abstract vocabulary and the requested Math Graffiti posters will help students learn and retain complex vocabulary required to excel in mathematics.
Each poster features the definition of the word along with a visual and with these posters I will be able to create a word wall that will enhance my classroom learning environment. Students will be able to use the word wall as a resource and will also develop the necessary mathematical vocabulary for each course.
Help me give my students need sets of Math Graffiti Word Wall posters that enhance learning math vocabulary with visuals.
