Contemporary Art Research for Edison Artists!

My students need a subscription to Scholastic Art Magazine, so that they are able to research and read about current artists and artworks!

My Students

My student artists are yearning to engage with new artworks and reading materials. When I say "smartest," they say, "artists!" My students understand the importance of finding meaning and reasoning behind their work. Art is not only about creating artwork from paper and pencil but being able to read and do research about artists and artwork that help them understand their place in the world. Art is not just about papers and pencils, it is about mixed media as well as research!

My Project

Scholastic Art magazine will help my students to read about what is going on in the art world and relate it to what they are creating in their own classroom. It is important for student artists to know that art can be used as a tool for social awareness and learning besides just for creation of beauty.

Every Monday, Edison artists read an Art related article together, with your help this can continue.

They further engage with the article throughout the rest of the week in their art warm ups by rereading parts of the article, and elaborating on those ideas by creating small drawing projects based off the ideas they have read about. This further engages them with reading while using art as a resource for that engagement!
