This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember the time when everyone learned with paper and a pencil? Those days are long gone. Computers and technology are ever present in today's classrooms. Unfortunately, some schools have more than others.

We are a typical neighborhood grammar school located in the southwest area of Chicago.

Unfortunately, in Illinois, we are facing a budget deficit in our educational funding. We have an increase in students in the classroom, but not the resources that should go along with it. I teach in a predominantly Hispanic/African-American students. The majority of our students come from low-income families. I teach to students that do not have computers in their own homes.

My Project

ThinkCERCA is an online, CCSS-aligned literacy program with tools and content teachers need to help students learn to read closely, think critically, and develop powerful arguments. One of the modules that I will have my students work on the module, Money and Needs. It focuses on how economic factors influence our futures. It asks students to evaluate the impact money has on decision-making in both informational and literary texts.

This project is so important to me because students will have a better understanding of financial literacy.

It will allow students to be responsible citizens when they become adults.
