Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classroom are energetic and enthusiastic. They are learning American Sign Language in my class to communicate with deaf family members, interact with the deaf community, and/or provide more opportunities for their futures. Most are bilingual and learning American Sign Language as a third language.
In addition to this new language they are learning, some will be the first in their families to graduate high school.
Several will be the first in their families to attend college. Our school also has an astronomically high number of students in foster care. Although they have the odds stacked against them in many ways, their spirit and determination never wavers.
My Project
With so many students in every class, it is important to accommodate and modify content when possible to meet each student's learning needs. Often, this means creating consumable copies of the textbook or notes for students to annotate and refer back to. Unfortunately, this isn't always possible due to the limitations of our school. This printer and toner will allow every student equal access to the content and curriculum, regardless of their needs. Specifically, my dyslexic students will be able to get instant copies of all notes and textbook activities to allow them the opportunity to highlight and access the content like everyone else without calling attention to themselves.
