My Students
I teach at an arts focused high school. My students are not only creative and driven, but also kind and thoughtful. They support and encourage each other. The student body is diverse and the students try to learn about other backgrounds and understand differing perspectives. I am inspired by them every day!
I am constantly amazed by the students curiosity.
They ask lots of questions and find really creative ways to solve problems. I believe the arts focus of the school helps them develop their problem solving skills.
My Project
Our students are in need of a heavy duty printing Press.
We are a small Arts Charter school dedicated to the enrichment of learning through art and our current printing press is broken.
This press is used in our Printmaking, Contemporary print and Craft and 2D/3D classes, serving approximately 80 students. The press gives them a unique opportunity to explore a wide variety of print making processes such as woodcut, linocut, intaglio, monoprinting, and lithography.
We need an etching press to ensure these students are able to thrive in their art classes filled with mediums that are typically reserved for college courses. We can not afford a new press without the help from donors. Printmaking requires an entirely different way of thinking and reverse engineering. The mental aspect of printing alone has helped my students in many of their non-artistic studies, enabling them to reason beyond the obvious.
