Conquering Math Anxiety with Picture Books

Help me give my students picture books to set the stage for math lessons.

My Project

Close your eyes and remember how learning math made you feel? Did you get a pit in your stomach? Were you the student who always needed to go to the bathroom during math class? Now close your eyes again, can you remember your teacher reading to you? Literature helps create lifelong connections. Listening to picture books is relaxing. My students love the time of day when we sit on the rug together and read a good book. Many of my students are only read aloud to at school.

Picture books are a wonderful way to introduce math lessons to my students.

Many of my students have math anxiety. Help me create an environment in my classroom where fear of math can be openly talked about. Reading stories about people who overcome similar fears allows students to understand they too can overcome their fears and anxiety of math.
