My Project
Our 10th grade cohort at our school is organizing small group listening sessions. The goal of the sessions is to help create a since of belonging and ensure every student is able to identify at least two trusted adults in the building. The groups will meet monthly and focus on giving students voice to discuss topics they are interested in and to for staff to take actionable steps to ensure students are feeling heard and seen. Group topics will include varies topics such as self care, healthy relationships, positive communication. Offering snacks and water is a small yet very impactful part of building connections with students and showing them that we care.
Our students are amazing, strong and resilient.
Sadly, many of them face challenges outside of the school setting, including struggling to get their basic needs meet and repeated exposure to traumatic experiences. Which is why prioritizing relationships and creating a loving school environment is so crucial! We have already had one session with students and they are already asking when we will meet again! We are excited about the opportunity to build stronger connections with students and ensure they feel heard, safe and loved.
