My Project
My scholars are naturally inquisitive, always asking "Why?"—"Why did this happen?" "Why did it lead to this?" and especially, "Why are we learning this?" History is a passion of mine, and I’m especially dedicated to educating students who share backgrounds like mine.
I aim to connect them with their own history, helping them see the relevance and importance of learning about it.
The 1619 Project offers a deeper, more inclusive perspective on American history by centering the Black experience and the lasting impact of slavery. It sparks critical thinking and helps students connect historical events to present-day issues like racism and inequality. Through essays and poetry, it introduces diverse voices, expanding students' understanding of our nation's past. The content not only aligns with history standards but also shows students why history matters today—promoting empathy, awareness, and civic engagement.
