My Students
When I was a student, I loved getting my own magazine to take home. My students share the same joy and learning experience from a subscription to Scholastic News magazines.
My incoming second graders will be back to school in August and eager to learn.
The school I teach at is 87% free and reduced-price lunch. They don't have many experiences, and school is their safe haven. A lot of times, my second graders are in charge of getting everyone in the house ready for school because their parents may be working their second job. My students very rarely come to school with the basic supplies, but I don't want their socioeconomic status to stifle the projects and opportunities that I know would be so wonderful for them.
My Project
A Scholastic News subscription would give my students an opportunity to learn about science concepts, current events, and new places. Reading non-fiction material helps students expand their vocabulary. This subscription will give my students exciting reading material they can take home and share with their family. Scholastic News also has a fantastic on-line component, allowing us to tie in the technology component, which our students also need more exposure to.
Scholastic News is a wonderful resource to help my second graders grow as readers and hook them into Science and Social Studies concepts.
Please help support my project so my students will have a subscription to look forward to next year.
