Have you ever read a book and thought, "Wow this character or situation reminds me of something that has happened in my life?" I can vision this happening to my students after reading books from the King School Series.
I am a kindergarten teacher.
My class is a mix of special and general education students. My children live in a low economic area. Many times my students don't have anyone at home that can help them with their homework. Sometimes I am the only person helping my students learn so I need to find the best tools I can to help raise the bar with their education. I really want to help them read and explore numerous types of books so that I can help them find books that they enjoy reading.
My Project
The resources that I am requesting are awesome books that have characters that my students can relate to. The characters are from different ethnic backgrounds and reoccur in the different levels in the series. When we were at a workshop last year, I bought some of the books that were on the first grade level which is great for some of the children but the lower readers need the new kindergarten series. I have requested more of the first grade books so I have enough books so that I can create small group using this series.
Becoming a reader is one of the most important thing that will happen to a person.
These books would help my students to learn how to make text to self connections. They will help my students to follow characters in different books and situations in the series. These books are would really be a great learning tool to have in the classroom.
