My students are an extremely diverse and bright bunch! We are a Title I school in Greensboro, North Carolina with many children from other countries and English as a second language.
Music and movement empowers ALL students at every level of ability.
Not only do they make music, they become collaborative innovators in a cooperative environment!
It is my goal to give my students the tools necessary to be successful 21st century thinkers and citizens. Music is a global language, and I am committed to providing them as many creative outlets as possible.
My Project
Utilizing Children's Literature in the music classroom helps children make connections to their learning in the general classroom and beyond. These beautiful books adapted by John Feierabend are classic folktales that have been turned into "SongTales" over generations. My students will learn the folktales, sing them as "Song Tales," and then create dramatization, dance, and instrumentation to accompany the stories.
My students come from all over the world and in most instances, English is their second language.
When using the "SongTales," children will learn directionality, sequencing for reading comprehension, and connect the pictures to the story and song.
Students will combine their reading skills, comprehension skills, and musical skills to create movement, add instrumentation and dramatize the stories in music class.
