Connecting Personally to Literature

Help me give my students the novels that help them understand justice. Help them engage in the topic, think historically, and find relevance to their lives.

My Students

My students are smart, creative, kind, and happy. My students are in that unique stage between Elementary and Middle School. They are trying to figure out what direction their lives are headed in at the same time as finding their own voice in the large and loud world.

My favorite thing about our students is how strongly their compassion and desire to learn shine through every day.

We are a largely middle-class school and our rigorous curriculum standards demand an unrelenting pace and focus from our students every single day. We have high expectations and, to their credit, our students rise to meet those every single day!

My Project

Using modern, relevant, and engaging books to teach literacy is critical for our students today.

Students enjoy learning from each other.

This projects will allow them to do just that. This project will allow me to take my students on a "deep dive" into the novels and practice our 6th grade standards on a topic they enjoy and can connect to!

Our team designed activities that are cross-curricular so we can practice and implement theses stories in across multiple subjects in every way possible. Students engage and participate so much more in book that are relevant to them. Thank You
