Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is predominately EL students, and they struggle with oral teaching. All my students need the additional support of visuals to strengthen their comprehension of vocabulary, writing, science and math. I'd like to give them the same opportunities as other students have to be successful.

The community I teach in is very low economically, and my students struggle with supplying materials that would help improve their learning like books, paper, etc.

All my students have great attitudes towards their education, and I'd like to increase their enjoyment and strengthen their knowledge. Most of my students don't have access to technology at home. Each student is unique, and they come from different family backgrounds. They come to school every day excited about what's in-store for them. Our school is currently in portables, awaiting the opening of our newly constructed school.

My Project

One day I'll be able to show my kids what I'm talking about instead of just telling them. "I don't get it" or "What does that look like" will be questions of the past. I'll be able to show them how to type up a letter, what a peacock looks like, and so much more. I'd love to have an LCD projector in my class so I CAN do all these things because they are possible. I'd be able to show them a PowerPoint presentation on all the different dinosaurs, or different ways animals use camouflage to protect themselves. I could type up a story while the class observes and learns. Every student can get involved in their learning and be active and interested. We can add color, music and movement to the daily instruction. The possibilities are endless. I can't wait to hear my students say, "I get it", "Now I understand", "Oh, now I see!"

My students are capable of understanding but need instant visuals to strengthen their skills.

So many of my students are English learners and need additional support. I'd like to make our class visually inviting. It's a place where they come to learn how to make connections and increase their life experiences since most of my students will never have the opportunity to travel or visit museums outside of their community. So, why not bring it to our classroom.
