Our students are the best in the city. We are in an urban school district, but our students strive to reach their fullest potential. We are a neighborhood school with an international population that stretches over every continent.
My students are driven to be successful and are motivated to learn.
They enjoy being creative in the displays of their knowledge. As a school, we celebrate our many differences and learn from each other's experiences. We try to make all voices heard and encourage all students to take an active role in their education. We strive to tie all subjects together and provide real world meaning to their learning.
My Project
My classroom has all different type of learners. I love being able to show my students our math topics presented in many unique ways. One of the most important ways is for students to talk about and read about math. Many of my students are avid readers. By being able to reach them through novels and non-fiction books, I will be able to allow them to find math in an activity that they already find enjoyment.
Math and literacy work together to make real-world problem solvers.
By encouraging students to read about math, they can see the connection is has in the real world. This project will allow them to not only laugh (Wayside School series), but to think through problems (Tangled Tales), and to see how successful someone could be in multiple areas (Mind and Matter) all by reading about mathematics.
