My Students
My students come from a high poverty school. They are not fortunate to have real life experiences that allow them to think and problem solve in the real world. These books will provide opportunities for students of all ages and abilities to think and solve every day problems.
I am a Title One math teacher.
I work with students K-5 who struggle with math, mostly the logical thinking and problem solving piece. I also have materials in my classroom that all teachers in my school may use. These books will not only create real life problem solving opportunities for my students, but for all 800+ students in my elementary school.
My Project
I always knew that my students had a difficult time thinking outside the box; yet, I was not sure how to help them. Last spring, I attended NCTM, a math workshop for teachers all over the world. During the conference, I attended a workshop about teaching thinking and problem solving skills. I received many real life problem solving lessons to correspond to these children's books. However, I do not have the books. These books will give all students in my school real life situations that require them to think and solve through tough every day problems.
As I have stated.
Most students with whom I work live in poverty. They are not provided many rich opportunities to think and solve problems. These books are a start in opening their world to real life problem solving.
