it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Technology is all around us. It enhances the way we communicate and learn on a daily basis. I want my students to benefit from technology not only to get better at reading and math but to also to communicate via Skye with other children around the country and world.
My students live in the inner-city.
They all qualify for federal free lunches at school. They come to school not just to learn academics but also to feel safe and loved. They look up to teachers and appreciate school. They live with very little and have many struggles at such a young age. Yet, they aspire to be the best students, citizens, and friends they can be. They live in a rough environment filled with gangs and poverty.
My Project
I am requesting one iPad to incorporate technology into our reading and writing curriculum. I want my students to benefit from a variety of reading and math apps. My students will use IXL math app. It will provide them with a variety of math exercises that will help them reach proficiency in math. The best thing about this app is that I (the teacher) will receive a detail report stating where my students need additional teaching. I also want to use the iPad along with SKYPE to video conference. I want to give my students the opportunity to dialog and learn how other 2nd graders around the world and country live. Many of my students don't have the opportunity to venture outside of their neighborhood. I want to change that and show them that there is so much more to this world. I want to spark their interest in learning this way. In addition I want to use the iPad to have my student progress in reading through leveled reading ebooks.
Please help me not only enhance my students reading and math skills but also open a widow to the world through SKYPE.
