Connect Kindergarten With Chromebooks!

My students need four Chromebooks to create a center for daily use so they have consistent access to websites and apps that will help meet their learning goals.

My Students

We have an amazing classroom filled with 22 energetic kindergarteners eager to learn. My students come from a variety of economic backgrounds, as well as several different languages spoken in their homes.

The diverse backgrounds of my students require a great deal of differentiated instruction and personalized learning activities to meet their individual needs.

In our classroom, we have learners who love technology and go to the computer lab once per week. They want to be a part of the digital age by having their hands on technology every day!

My Project

Our Chromebook center will let students work collaboratively or independently while giving me time to work with a small group to listen to them read, assess their learning, and help them set new goals. My students already have accounts for Raz-Kids, Edgenuity, Learning.com, PebbleGo, and Code.org, and having a Chromebook center gives them access to these amazing learning tools independently.

When students use our new Chromebook center, they will get to practice language and math skills along with higher-level thinking activities like coding or programming, creating digital stories and posters, and researching about rain forests or outer space.

Using Clever badges on our Chromebooks, each student who comes to the center will be able to quickly sign on to the device, open Clever, and use websites for reading, math, language, and much more. Our school has a strong wireless network, so a set of four Chromebooks would give my students a way to connect to their Google login, Clever account, and many other web-based resources to which they already have usernames and passwords.

Once students get acquainted with the Chromebooks and using learning websites, I will add more challenging center activities including designing digital artwork or creating mind maps. My students who are learning English as their second language will have a chance to use the Read & Write Google Extension, Duolingo app, and online programs that target building language and literacy skills.

We welcome all contributions, big and small, to help fund our first project that will let my Kindergarten friends get connected to digital learning resources with Chromebooks!
