Connect Four

My students need four iPads, five iPad docks, and five iPad cases. I am asking for five docks and cases to go with four iPads I am requesting as well as the one iPad I have already received from generous donors!

My Students

Teaching is so much more than a career to me. It is who I am down to the very core of my being. When my students are in the room with their hands covered in science goo, or when they are acting out the battles of the American Revolution during S.S., there is no place I would rater be!

My students are amazing.

They attend an urban Title I school in the upstate of South Carolina, where they are constantly making great gains in all subjects. They absolutely LOVE school. This year, I have 75% class still at perfect attendance with only 8 weeks to go in the year. That is unbelievable for a a transient inner city school like ours. These students work hard, and they deserve the very best that I can give them. I have been working tirelessly to give them every aspect of technology that I can get in their hands. We have been blessed with interactive white boards, remote control class participation devices, and classroom computers. Recently, due to a district grant we began using Lego Robotics. The missing pieces that my students keep begging me to acquire from generous donors on this site is are iPads.

My Project

Having one iPad in a classroom is an amazing tool. There are countless ways to use it. My students deserve bigger dreams though, that is why I am asking for four iPads, five iPad docks, and five iPad cases. I want to put one in each of the cooperative learning groups that I have in my class. With these iPads, I plan on introducing Skype in the classroom to enhance and engage my classroom, as well as classrooms around the state, nation, and world. I have used my personal computer for Skype many times, but it is time for my students to explore this technology on their own through iPads. Students will learn how to communicate in a mature way as we interact with classrooms from various locations around the world. Skype and iPads together are about the most amazing combination for an incredible learning experience. I have already collaborated and planned with fellow educators in neighboring schools to tag team difficult lessons through the web via Skype technology.

The excitement about this project is literally flying out of my fingers, through the keyboard, and into this box as I type.

My principal says to dream big when seeking opportunities for my students. This project is indeed big, and I need all of the help I can get. I long for the day that this dream becomes a reality. There are not enough words to type how meaningful it will be to have these iPads delivered to our room. Help me make this dream come true.
