This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are thoughtful, resilient, and incredibly kind. They come to school every day with big hearts and a deep desire to learn, even when life outside the classroom presents challenges. Many of them quietly face struggles with access to basic hygiene supplies. Last year, I created a small personal hygiene station in our classroom, and the impact was immediate. Students were able to grab what they needed discreetly, helping them feel more comfortable, confident, and ready to participate in learning.

This year, I want to expand that station based on what students have shared they need most: deodorant wipes, hand sanitizer, menstrual care products, gloves, and flushable wipes.

I’m also adding snacks to support students who come to school hungry, drawer organizers to keep everything accessible and clean, and even a cuddly lavender-scented Warmies plush for emotional comfort when needed. These supplies may seem small, but they remove huge barriers to focus, self-esteem, and classroom engagement. When students feel clean and cared for, they can focus on their work instead of their worries.

My goal is to make sure no student feels embarrassed, distracted, or left out because they lack access to personal care. This project helps create a safe, welcoming space where students know their needs, physical and emotional, are respected and supported. Every child deserves to learn with dignity, and with your help, we’ll continue building a classroom where that’s possible.
