This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Participating in sports is about more than just competition—it’s about building confidence, teamwork, and resilience. However, for many of my female athletes in badminton and track, a lack of access to basic hygiene products can become a source of stress and distraction. That’s why I’m requesting essential items such as tampons, pads, deodorant, and other necessities to ensure my students can focus on their performance rather than worrying about personal care.
Many of my athletes come from low-income households where access to hygiene products isn’t always guaranteed.
When they don’t have these necessities on hand, they may feel self-conscious, uncomfortable, or even sit out of practice and games. By providing these essential items in our team spaces, I can ensure that no athlete has to choose between participating in the sport they love and managing their basic needs. Feeling clean and prepared allows them to focus on improving their skills, working as a team, and building the confidence they need to excel both in athletics and in life.
My goal is simple: I want every girl on my teams to feel supported, comfortable, and confident when they step onto the court or track. Sports should be an empowering experience, not one filled with worry over something as basic as hygiene. With these supplies readily available, my athletes can show up to practice and competitions knowing that their needs are met, helping them perform at their best and truly enjoy their time as part of a team.
These young athletes deserve to play and compete without barriers, and with your support, we can ensure that their focus stays on their growth and success—not on whether they have the products they need.
