Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at my school come from high poverty areas where even leaving the building is dangerous, no matter what time of day. The school is not too far away, but it is at least a train ride away and provides some distance from their home lives.

These students risk their own safety and come to school instead of staying home, locked behind their doors, because they want better lives.

It is my mission to arm them with the skills they need to attain and lead those better lives.

My Project

Students are normally inspired by the books they receive in class. At this time, more than ever, great inspirational books are needed. Concrete Rose is one of them and our students should be able to read it, and to write about it through journal entries where they can connect to it.

These books will allow them to see themselves and explore themselves in writing, at a time when it is crucial in their lives.

The students have read Angie Thomas' The Hate You Give and are really looking forward to reading this text.
