As Kristine Tucker explained in her article ‘How Have Computers Changed Learning in the Classroom?’, computers allow “students to conduct comprehensive research and communicate with other education providers beyond the four walls of the classroom.”
My 4th graders consist of a lively bunch of students who come from a culturally diverse population.
They are excited about learning and bring a wide range of learning styles. My students are from an urban public school and are valuable members that create caring community with their peers, teachers and staff.
My Project
Because my students have a wide range of learning styles, having access to computers in the classroom will allow them to extend learning outside the textbook and provide them valuable life skills that will extend into higher education and future careers.
Throughout the school year, my students will use the computers to publish their work from Writer's Workshop, research topics for projects/papers, and use applications from the Google Play Store for additional practice on concepts taught in class. In the 4th grade, my students will be completing research projects on Native American tribes and California Missions. Having the computers will serve as a research tool in addition to the nonfiction books used for the projects.
Computers in my classroom will add another way to differentiate learning.
My students will be able to research topics/subjects that inspire them and develop critical skills required for a world full of technology.
