My students have no computers. They love using computers - when they have access they work excellently, both independently and in groups. They continually ask when we will have computers. I want my students to be able to type their work. I teach 6th and 7th grade students with special needs - all subjects - at a public school in Brooklyn. Most of my students have difficulty with writing, handwriting, or spelling - AlphaSmart will help them with these difficulties. Typing will allow them to enjoy writing and make editing possible in a whole new way. They will also gain valuable computer skills. The AlphaSmart is a word-processing only computer that consists of a keyboard and a small screen, and runs with AA batteries. I need at least two for my classroom.
